Breastfeeding Support
Breastfeeding is a wonderful and natural way to provide essential nutrients, give health benefits to your baby and yourself and build a strong bond with your baby. However, it can also come with challenges, and mothers may need support and guidance along the way. I will provide an individualised plan and support you to meet your feeding goals.
Areas of Expertise
I have expertise with the following:
- Tips for a successful breastfeeding experience
- Solutions for common breastfeeding challenges, such as low milk supply, engorgement, and nipple pain
- Feeding positions
- Relactation after a break
- What is mastitis and how you can avoid it
- Expressing milk for your baby
- Cluster feeding and growth spurts
- Infant oral anatomy and sucking assessment
- Breastfeeding multiple infants
- Tongue tie assessment
- Bottle preference (called nipple confusion in the past)
How I can help
Breastfeeding support is deeply personal and usually needed at times such as while you are still adjusting to life with a newborn. I provide home visits in all regions of Auckland or clinic visits at Milk & Honey Paediatrics in Central Auckland.
A feeding consultation will make time to talk about everything which has led to you seeking support, an oral examination of baby, a breast exam if you are have having any pain, an observation of a full feed, and non-judgemental information to help you reach your own feeding goals. This usually takes around 60 minutes.
Your initial visit fee of $195 includes a follow-up telephone call (if you like communicating this way) and 1 week of email or text follow up support. I can provide a quote for any follow up therapy sessions based on length of session.
Please note, travel mileage will be charged at IRD mileage rate if out of area. I am based in West Auckland. I give a full quote prior to the visit.
